As an Estimator, you will analyze drawings, specifications, RFPs, proposals, and other documentation to prepare material quotes, direct costs, and labor estimates for projects and services.
A Typical Day at Prime Controls- Preconstruction engineering review and assessment of plans and specifications.
- Review customer information todeterminematerial and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists.
- Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; anddeterminingcost effectiveness.
- Use Estimating tools to develop quotes. Update pricing database from quotes received on each bid tomaintaincurrent pricing.
- Consult with clients, vendors, and internal resources to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Participate in pre-submittaljob walks and meetings to substantiate labor estimates andreview material costs.
- Organize and manage a process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized.
- Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs anddeterminethe reason for any discrepancies.
- Provide cost estimates and proposals for change orders, typically needed within one day.
- Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
- Identify cost trends toassistmanagement in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings
- Ability to provide a take-off of P&IDs for process and mechanical systems
- Knowledge of PLC and/or DCS Systems
- Knowledge of Instrumentation and Control Valve Products
- Experience in developing complex estimates from 30%, 60%, and 90% design status
- Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines
- Advanced Proficiency in Excel. Proficient in other Microsoft Office applications
- Proficient in pdf applications such as Bluebeam and Adobe
- Engineering Degree or Related Work Experience
