QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION- High School diploma or equivalent (GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full post‑secondary completion)
- Must complete one of the following:
- PCA externship
- PCA internal internship
- Six months direct patient care experience
- Enrolled in a nursing program with first clinical rotation completed
- BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association
- Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments and performance evaluations
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading and writing English
- Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers in a customer‑service focused manner
- Performs basic patient care activities of daily living within unit‐specific limits and job scope
- Promotes a positive work environment with the interprofessional care team; participates in teamwork by responding positively to requests for assistance
- Interacts with peers, staff, and physicians in a supportive and respectful manner; encourages open communication to achieve mutual understanding
- Contributes toward improvement of department scores for employee engagement and peer‑to‑peer accountability
- Follows patient and family‑centered care standards and provides direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse; documents care and responds to care needs
- Assists with maintaining, cleaning and stocking of equipment and supplies as assigned; may serve as an in‑house courier for lab and blood retrieval
- Contributes toward improving patient satisfaction through peer‑to‑peer accountability and bedside shift handoff/report
- Reports observations and conditions of patients to licensed personnel to achieve desired outcomes; maintains patient and family privacy and safety
- Provides appropriate hand‑off at change of shift at patient bedside; promotes patient‑centered care
- Conducts hourly rounding to ensure patient needs are met; reports near misses and collaborates on improving patient safety
- Contributes toward improving quality and safety scores through peer‑to‑peer accountability and support of initiatives to prevent pressure injuries, falls and hospital‑acquired infections
- Assists with patient and staffing needs (floats) across the service line or hospital as competencies allow; prioritizes tasks efficiently
- Utilizes resources with cost effectiveness and value creation in mind; self‑motivated to manage time effectively and minimize incidental overtime while assisting coworkers as needed
- Offers innovative solutions in performance improvement projects and shared governance activities
- Seeks opportunities to identify self‑development needs and takes appropriate action; maintains My Development Plan on an ongoing basis
