The Claims Manager is responsible for overseeing and administering all insurance claims on a national level for several operating subsidiaries, to include general liability, workers' compensation, auto liability, and property claims. This role serves as the primary liaison between the company, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and outside counsel to ensure timely resolution of claims while minimizing financial exposure and protecting company interests.
The Claims Manager will also drive loss prevention initiatives and support risk mitigation strategies across the business’s nationwide operations.
- Manage the full lifecycle of insurance claims, including general liability, workers' compensation, auto liability, and property claims, from initial report through resolution or closure.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with insurance carriers, third-party administrators (TPAs), and adjusters to ensure claims are handled efficiently and in accordance with policy terms.
- Collaborate with business units to make sure TPA and/or insurance company assigned adjusters get all the documentation & information they need to effectively and efficiently manage and adjust claims, negotiate settlements, and resolve disputes.
- Investigate and evaluate claims to determine liability exposure, reserve adequacy, and settlement recommendations; escalate high-exposure matters to senior leadership as appropriate.
- Coordinate with outside counsel on litigated claims, including monitoring case progress.
- Develop and maintain claims documentation standards, ensuring accurate and complete records in the claims management system for audit, reporting, and regulatory compliance purposes.
- Prepare and present regular claims reports and analytics to senior management, including loss runs, trending data, reserve summaries, and key performance metrics.
- Partner with the safety team to manage claims and assist in identifying opportunities for claims risk mitigation and loss prevention across all operating subsidiaries.
- Ensure compliance with state-specific workers' compensation regulations and reporting requirements across all operational jurisdictions.
- Support the annual insurance renewal process by compiling loss data, responding to underwriter inquiries, and participating in carrier meetings as needed.
- Assist in collecting, compiling, and submitting renewal information and renewal applications to insurance broker for all policy renewals.
- Assist with subrogation recovery efforts and coordinate with carriers to maximize recoveries on applicable claims.
- Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in claims management within the construction and electrical contracting sectors.
Required Qualifications Education
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required, in Risk Management, Business Administration, Insurance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in claims management, with a focus on workers' compensation and general liability claims.
- Demonstrated experience managing claims in a construction, preferably with subcontractors within commercial, industrial and residential electrical contracting, and/or industrial services environment.
- Experience coordinating with outside counsel on litigated matters.
- Proven track record of managing claims across multiple states and jurisdictions with varying regulatory requirements.
- Experience with self-insured or high-deductible insurance programs.
- Experience with captive insurance arrangements.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations, safety compliance, and workplace injury prevention programs.
- Prior experience in a multi-subsidiary or decentralized corporate structure.
- Knowledge of subrogation processes and recovery strategies.
- Experience supporting insurance renewal and underwriting processes.
- Experience with longshoremen’s coverage and claims.
- One or more of the following certifications:
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
- Associate in Insurance (AINS)
- Associate in Risk Management (ARM)
- Associate in Claims (AIC)
