Operations Manager, Business Management
Chief of Staff to the President
We're seeking a Chief of Staff to the President to help scale execution and operating rigor across a growing, sales‑driven organization. This role reports directly to the President and operates as an extension of the President across strategy, execution, and accountability. The Chief of Staff is responsible for increasing execution velocity, improving decision making, and driving follow‑through on the company's most important priorities.
This is not an administrative or coordination role. It is an operator role with meaningful influence over performance, people decisions, and economics.
Company ContextThe company generates over $100 M+ in revenue and operates a large frontline sales organization. The team includes approximately 20 employees at HQ, around 100 in back‑office functions, and roughly 800 frontline sales employees including market directors, district managers, store managers, and sales representatives. Payroll represents a significant portion of the cost structure. The company is in a scaling phase where execution discipline, systems, and leadership consistency must mature to support continued growth.
RoleMandate
The Chief of Staff is hired to help the company scale effectively by improving cross‑functional execution, strengthening operating cadence, and reducing the President as the bottleneck. The role works across all major departments to drive accountability, surface risks early, and ensure priorities are delivered.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a force multiplier to the President by translating strategy into clear priorities and driving follow‑through across the organization.
- Own and drive execution of the company's most important cross‑functional initiatives, particularly those tied to revenue performance, cost discipline, and operational rigor.
- Improve the company's operating cadence, including meeting discipline, decision‑making processes, and accountability mechanisms.
- Partner with leadership to strengthen underperforming operational areas, particularly HR and payroll, through process improvement and system implementation.
- Support and influence leadership and people decisions, including hiring and firing recommendations, leadership assessments, and performance accountability.
- Partner on compensation and commission design to ensure alignment with productivity, gross profit, and performance goals.
- Hold senior leaders accountable to agreed targets and commitments, escalating issues when execution breaks down.
- Provide clear synthesis and recommendations to the President on risks, trade‑offs, and performance trends.
- The role has enterprise‑wide scope and direct impact on company performance, particularly through execution quality, payroll‑driven costs, and revenue outcomes. There is no standalone functional ownership initially.
- Authority comes from operating with the President's backing rather than from formal reporting lines.
- The role is expected to have few or no direct reports initially. Over time, the Chief of Staff may take on one to three direct reports in execution‑focused areas such as HR operations, payroll, finance operations, or program management. This is not intended to be a large people management role.
- The ideal candidate is a senior operator with experience driving execution in complex, people‑heavy organizations. They have worked closely with senior leadership and are comfortable operating with ambiguity, influencing across functions, and holding leaders accountable.
- Relevant backgrounds may include Chief of Staff to a President, Head of Operations, General Manager, or senior operational leadership roles. Candidates must be highly comfortable with operating economics, payroll‑driven cost structures, and incentive alignment.
- This role requires strong judgment, direct communication, and the ability to push when needed while maintaining trust with senior leaders.
- The Chief of Staff reports directly to the President and works closely with the executive leadership team.
- The President is the final decision‑maker and will actively back the Chief of Staff on agreed priorities.
