About the Position
Under supervision, processes, maintains, and updates police records and reports; responds to requests for information; copies and releases police records in compliance with Department and mandated rules and regulations; accesses reports and provides requested information to law enforcement personnel, government agencies, and the public.

Responsibilities- Performs police records duties such as reviewing, copying, filing, and distributing records while maintaining confidentiality.
- Manages the front counter by greeting and assisting visitors, answering questions, and providing appropriate referrals.
- Responds to requests from the public and other agencies, answers questions, shares authorized criminal history information, transfers calls to dispatch as needed.
- Performs specialized clerical duties related to law enforcement records.
- Testifies in court as required regarding the accuracy and maintenance of police records.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One year of general office experience, including typing, computer usage and public contact, preferably in a law enforcement environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of responsible clerical records keeping experience comparable to that of a Police Records Clerk I with the City of Suisun City.
- Completion of POST Basic Records Course and completion of the California Public Records Act course are required.
- Specialized general office and clerical training is desirable.
- Medical Insurance - The City pays for medical coverage up to current Kaiser Permanente Family rate. Employees covered by another insurance plan may be eligible for a cash payment up to $700 per month in lieu of enrolling in the City’s health plans. - Retirement - Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) of 2% @ 55 for Classic Employees, or 2% @ 62 for new employees subject to the California Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) of 2013.
- Life Insurance - Fully City-paid life insurance of $200,000 for employee only.
- Longevity Pay – up to 6% depending on continuous years of service
- Paid Leave – 96 hours of sick leave, 14 paid holidays per year plus a birthday holiday, and 80 hours of paid vacation per year for the first five years, increasing over time.
- Education Incentive Pay – 3% additional pay for an associates degree or higher
Positions assigned to the police department will be required to pass a thorough background investigation, including polygraph testing and must be able to maintain the same level of security as when first hired, as a condition of continued employment. Assignments to the police department will require successful completion of a comprehensive pre-employment medical examination prior to employment.
