IT Consultant, Cloud Computing
We are seeking a highly skilled ITSM / CMDB engineer to support our in‑progress transition from BMC Remedy Atrium to Service Now. This role goes far beyond CMDB engineering and maintenance, it is a strategic and technical role responsible for designing, engineering, and operationalizing an enterprise‑grade CMDB aligned to industry standards and ITIL best practices. The engineer will help define the future‑state CMDB architecture, build operating procedures, establish governance, determine authoritative data sources, and support integrations with systems such as Sunflower, Axonius, SCCM, and cloud inventory tools.
This role is foundational to standing up a sustainable, accurate, and enterprise‑grade configuration management ecosystem. Must be able to work 2–3 days per week in the Suitland, MD office.
- Support the transition effort from Remedy Atrium to Service Now CMDB, including analysis of legacy data, CI structures, and relationships
- Provide architecture support for the CMDB framework (CI classes, attributes, lifecycle states, relationships, and service models) aligned to industry standards and organizational needs
- Validate or update naming conventions, normalization rules, attribute requirements, and reconciliation logic
- Design ingestion patterns, integration points, and discovery strategies for building a clean and authoritative CMDB
- Evaluate all external data sources (Sunflower, Axonius, SCCM, Cloud inventories, Atrium exports, spreadsheets, etc.) to determine which sources should be integrated, rebuilt, or excluded
- Assess options for bringing over a clean, normalized subset of Atrium data versus rebuilding CI records entirely in Service Now
- Engineer approved integrations using discovery tools, API imports, transform maps, and reconciliation rules
- Define authoritative data sources, correlation logic, and ownership models for CI classes
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, asset management, and security teams to ensure cross‑platform data model alignment
- Develop Configuration Management processes, governance frameworks, policies, and SOPs aligned with ITIL best practices
- Create the Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for CI creation, updates, deletions, lifecycle transitions, and relationship modeling
- Define stakeholder responsibilities, RACI models, and workflows for sustaining CMDB integrity
- Implement CMDB KPIs, health scoring, dashboards, and data quality metrics for ongoing monitoring
- Provide hands‑on guidance, strategy sessions, and workshops to elevate internal teams' CMDB capabilities
- Document SOPs, playbooks, architecture diagrams, and onboarding guides for long‑term sustainment
- Train teams on CMDB best practices, data entry procedures, CI lifecycle, and Service Now functionality
- 7+ years of experience in ITSM with a strong emphasis on Configuration Management and CMDB engineering
- Demonstrated experience transitioning from legacy CMDB platforms (preferably Remedy Atrium) to Service Now
- Expert‑level knowledge of Service Now CMDB, ITSM suites, data models, discovery integrations, and import methodologies
- Proven ability to design and implement CMDB governance frameworks, processes, and operating models
- Strong understanding of ITIL, with ITIL v3 or v4 certification required
- Strong communication, facilitation, and consulting skills with the ability to guide diverse stakeholder groups
- Service Now certifications
- Experience with large‑scale enterprise, government, or multi‑site environments
- Background in asset management, IT security, infrastructure engineering, or enterprise architecture
- Experience producing CONOPS, SOPs, data lineage maps, and CMDB architecture documentation
