Position SummaryResponsible for assisting and supporting dietary staff while managing the dietary department within established company policies and state and federal regulations. The Dining Service Coordinator oversees fiscal operations in the dietary department such as budgeting, planning and accounting for dietary services, assists in hiring and training dietary personnel, and coordinates dietary services with the interdisciplinary team to provide an overall person-centered care experience in the nursing facility environment.
CriticalFunctions
Full-time role. Supervises and/or assists in preparing and serving meals in the nursing home setting, ensuring correct diets are provided to residents and visitors, maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe working environment.
Essential Functions- Important member of the management team expected and authorized to use sound independent judgment and discretion.
- Follow Americare policies, state and federal and ASI standards.
- Plan, organize and map out dietary work schedule.
- Counsel, discipline, and terminate dietary personnel with appropriate documentation.
- Orientate, train, and evaluate job performance of all dietary service personnel.
- Compile and submit the department objective and achievements in a written quarterly review.
- Participate in regularly scheduled conferences with the administrator and department heads.
- Develop and implement dietary policies, procedures and staff development programs.
- Purchase necessary foods and supplies while working within budget guidelines.
- Maintain necessary personnel, cost, menu, monthly food inventories and other essential records.
- Train dietary staff to perform assigned duties.
- Allot sufficient time for all dietary service personnel to participate in in-service education.
- Participate in multidisciplinary resident plan of care.
- Direct the cleaning, sanitation, and care of safety equipment.
- Attend scheduled seminars and workshops approved by the administrator.
- Cooperate with the consulting registered dietician to implement approved dietary recommendations.
- Maintain good communication with all departments, especially nursing.
Category II OSHA exposure may occur while performing duties such as resident nose bleeds or injuries. Employees are mandated to use personal protective equipment such as gloves, gowns and face protection. The job operates in a professional kitchen with stoves, knives, dishwashers, walk-in refrigerators and coolers, and other job-specific appliances.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, handle or feel items with hands and arms. Meet all physical requirements of the position as identified by facility policies.
Position Type / HoursFull-time position. Hours vary and depend on staff coverage on any given day.
TravelSome travel may be requested from time to time by superiors.
Qualifications / Education / Experience / Skills- Minimum 18 years of age, high school education and continuing education related to dietary department.
- Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide a home-like environment or person-centered care while providing nutritious meals.
- Adherence to HIPAA regulations, OSHA regulations and state and federal guidelines.
- Familiar with lock out tag out procedures and use of personal protective equipment.
- Experience in meal planning, budgeting and dietary operations as well as resident admission/discharge.
- Preferred experience in quantity food production.
- Operation of dietary/kitchen appliances in a safe manner.
- Ability to adhere to company policies and procedures and display professional behavior.
- Follow HIPAA guidelines regarding resident confidentiality.
- Demonstrate respect for residents and their family members by assisting or problem-solving issues.
