Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technician Associate
RWE Clean Energy, LLC is seeking a Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technician Associate to monitor the Solar & Energy Storage farm’s availability and ensure mechanical and electrical maintenance is performed to maintain safety and operating targets. The candidate will execute a daily scheduling philosophy, prioritize work from planning, maximize generation, and complete proactive maintenance tasks.

Role Responsibilities- Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV & battery storage electrical equipment
- Ensure that all assigned maintenance tasks are performed safely and in accordance with site operating procedures established for Storage/Solar PV sites
- Complete Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Out (LOTO), JSA’s, Permit to Work, and job‑specific documentation required to conduct maintenance and repairs safely
- Proactively look for improvement opportunities in job‑appropriate processes and procedures
- Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet reporting requirements
- Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required
- Perform maintenance on BESS, trackers, inverters, and other PV electrical equipment as assigned by the Site Supervisor or Lead
- Monitor the activities of maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions where appropriate
- Perform current and voltage readings as necessary
- Document all work and generate reports as necessary
- Identify gaps in safety standards and safety risks in the environment
- Assist with BOP activities as needed
- Use available tools to monitor energy output and respond quickly to emergencies or situations requiring immediate troubleshooting and corrective actions
- Ensure site protocols for site access, site HSE, security, deliveries, and inspections are followed
- Interface with any 3rd‑party contractors working at facilities
- Be available to respond to non‑traditional operating hours for operations, maintenance, and emergent issues (including abnormal operating conditions, maintenance work orders, and O&M issue resolution)
- All other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate degree in engineering or related science (accredited U.S. school) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in operations and maintenance of power generation, transmission, and distribution; preference for renewable energy experience, particularly solar and battery storage
- Unrestricted driver’s license in good standing required
- Willing to relocate to within a 1‑hour drive of the site
- Skilled in at least one of the following: power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance, substation maintenance, power plant safety protocols
- Work in extreme weather conditions
- Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workday
- Knowledge of and experience with hand and power tools
- Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
- Ability to work within tight deadlines
- Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to and over 50 lbs.
- Routine operation of a computer/tablet and other office productivity machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, printer)
- Frequent oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
- Complete all required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
- First aid/CPR/AED preferred
- OSHA Certified preferred
- HVAC Certified preferred
- Shift work
- Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations
- Must pass physical fitness tests required for the company
- Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned, including supporting other sites
- Ability to work in varying climates as required
- Must live within a 1‑hour drive from the site unless agreed by HR and the hiring manager
- This position is a combined field and office‑based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations
