Patient Access Representative I
LocationSommerville, SC – MUSC Children’s After Hours and Specialty Clinics, part of Shawn Jenkin’s Children’s Hospital at MUSC.
Job OverviewMUSC Children’s After Hours and Specialty Clinics is a pediatric outpatient clinic hosting a variety of pediatric subspecialists. We also provide walk‑in after‑hours care, extending our pediatric emergency department to serve the community when most pediatricians are closed.
Responsibilities- Greets and welcomes patients and families in person or by telephone.
- Optimizes the patient experience and clinic efficiency by scheduling appointments appropriately.
- Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information accurately.
- Collects co‑pays and prior patient balances.
- Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Provides customer service, message distribution, ancillary scheduling, and referral management.
- Interacts with medical professionals and other care team members from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum 1 year of customer service experience.
- Ability to interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations is preferred.
- Previous experience with hospital information systems or word processing is preferred.
Variable shifts: day, evening, weekend and holiday coverage.
- Specialty Clinics: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday‑Friday.
- After Hours Care: 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Monday‑Friday.
- Weekends and Holidays: 11:30 AM – 7:00 PM.
Hourly, Health‑20 pay grade, scheduled 40 hours per week. Pay rate: $16.50 – $18.50 per hour (based on locations).
