CSS Graduate Student Clinical Externship

Overview

CSS will provide Graduate Student Externs with an opportunity to extend their academic education with clinical training outside of their graduate school setting and aim to give participants practical experiences in their field of study. We believe that externships are an essential component of graduate education in speech-language pathology and therefore supply a clinical practice externship that is not only the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge acquired in academic courses;

it is the training ground for mastering the full skill set required for clinical practice and/or school based setting including interpersonal communication, writing skills, professional conduct, behavior management, and evidence-based practice, as well as business-related aspects of speech-language pathology such as billing and reimbursement.

Overall we offer students the ability to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to work with a variety of populations and disorders in various settings under direct supervision.

• To be a part of the development and growth of the next generation of Speech Language Pathologists.

• Show initiative with tasks provided by your Clinical Supervisor.
• Demonstrate compassion, motivation, and enthusiasm to learn.
• Perform at the appropriate academic level and meet objectives as outlined by your academic institution and Clinical Supervisor.
• Accept and utilize constructive feedback on performance and implement suggestions.
• Follow CSS procedures for data collection.
• Adhere to HIPAA privacy regulations.
• Complete all forms and evaluations requested by CSS and/or the academic institution.

* All externships require a mutual agreement between the academic program and the externship facility.
