About This Position
Help families, seniors, and individuals of all abilities thrive as the Family and Community Programs Director at the Summit Area YMCA. At the Summit Area YMCA, we believe in building a community where everyone feels welcome, supported, and inspired.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, grow, and oversee innovative programs and events that connect people of all ages and abilities across the Summit and Berkeley Heights YMCAs.
- Plan and implement program development and implementation aligned with branch and association strategic goals.
- Manage birthday parties, special‑needs, and adaptive programs to increase participation and revenue.
- Coordinate special events, community health workshops, and educational programs.
- Analyze program outcomes, track participation, and evaluate impact for continuous improvement.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
- Represent the Y as a positive ambassador, promoting diversity and inclusion.
- Contribute to the Association Strategic Plan, attend required meetings and trainings.
- Innovation:
Create and implement new and relevant approaches to expand the Y’s impact. - Inclusion:
Promote diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence in all programs. - Communication & Influence:
Listen and express yourself effectively to build commitment to the Y’s cause. - Emotional Maturity:
Understand and manage emotions effectively in all situations.
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in child development, human services, recreation, or business or equivalent experience.
- Minimum two years of project and event management experience for a range of ages and abilities.
- Experience in outreach, community relationships, and diverse populations.
- Minimum two years of budget management, staff and volunteer supervision experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
- Certified CPR/AED and First Aid, or ability to obtain within 60 days.

Salary & BenefitsThis full‑time, exempt position generally works Monday–Friday during standard business hours, with occasional evenings or weekends. Salary range: $50,000 – $60,000 annually, based on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, long‑term disability insurance; paid time off; free family membership; program discounts; professional development; and a 12% employer contribution to the retirement plan upon eligibility.
