We are seeking engaged and responsible Lifeguards to join our aquatics team and ensure the safety of our members and guests. The Lifeguard monitors the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, maintains a positive atmosphere, and upholds all YMCA safety standards and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Current or ability to obtain a Lifeguard and CPR/AED certification.
  • Experience and passion for aquatics.
  • People person who enjoys making connections and building relationships.

  • Know how to swim and tread water.
  • Resourceful and can think on your feet.
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary range $17.25 – $20.00 per hour, based on experience.
  • Part‑time schedule up to 25 hours per week with shifts Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑3:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am‑7:00 pm.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain constant surveillance of the water, deck and pool areas.
  • Actively scan the pool to achieve a 10‑by‑10 reaction time.
  • Apply safety rules, policies and guidelines consistently.
  • Maintain professional appearance and proper uniform/equipment for each shift.
  • Build effective relationships with members, participants and staff.
  • Give 100 % attention to patrons and pool operations; stay alert, vigilant and conscientious.
  • Maintain current certifications (Lifeguard, CPR‑PR, First‑Aid).
  • Know and review emergency procedures and respond immediately per Y policies.
  • Help maintain pool area: chlorine/pH reading, cleaning, equipment, chemicals and reports.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available.
  • Check pool for hazardous conditions upon arrival.
  • Be in good physical condition for lifeguard duties.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings, trainings and events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Communicate to members, volunteers and the public that the Y is a leading non‑profit committed to strengthening community.
Requirements
  • Must know how to swim and tread water.
  • Current certificate or ability to obtain American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard.
  • Current Certification or ability to obtain professional rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Must obtain certification for Emergency Oxygen Administration, Asthma Inhaler and Epi‑Pen Administration within first 6 months.
  • Minimum 15 years old.
Physical Demands

Must be able to pass lifeguard water test, remain alert, sit or stand for extended periods, hear noises, distinguish distress signals, scan all areas of the pool with clear vision, perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for water rescue, communicate verbally, including projecting voice over distance, lift handicap stairs with or without assistance, stand, walk, reach, lift up to 50 lb, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, use hands to handle objects, talk or hear.

Swim skills: complete 300 yd continuous swimming (front crawl or breaststroke), tread water for 2 min using only legs, retrieve 10‑lb dive weight from 7‑ft depth, surface and swim 20 yd with weight within 100 s.
