Job Summary

Under close supervision, this position is responsible for performing basic services of our tractors, trailers, chassis, containers, and power equipment at a customer site or rail yard using a mobile service truck. This role may be outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime. Full‑time attendance is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks such as tire replacements, brake adjustments/services/replacements, electrical diagnostics, and structural repairs on trailer chassis and sub‑frames.
  • Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard.
  • Operate assigned service truck professionally, keeping it clean and well‑stocked.
  • Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures.
  • Document damage to company equipment to allow subrogation of repair costs.
  • Use cutting torch and welding equipment to perform minor chassis, frame, and bracket repairs.
  • Patch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs, ensuring they are sealed and watertight.
  • Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections under the supervision of a certified technician as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 lbs.
  • Demonstration of required skills through education, certifications, military, or other experiences.
  • Clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines.
  • Ability to supply own basic tools or purchase through the toolbox purchase program.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in the elements.
  • Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with up to 1 year of experience in semi‑tractor or semi‑trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent education and experience.
  • DOT certification in FHWA Inspections and Air Brakes.
  • Welding certification.
  • Forklift certification and experience.
  • EPA Section 608 certification and refrigeration license.
  • Strong communication skills to transmit, receive, and interpret ideas across various mediums.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient computer skills and comfort working with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Effective use of time and resources.
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements, including lifting/moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).
Pay Range

The expected starting pay range for this position is $28.27–$40.93.

Relocation

Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates located outside a 50‑mile radius of the job.

This position is not eligible for employment‑based sponsorship.

Application Levels

Applicants can be considered for I, II, or Sr. Level Trailer Technician depending on verified years of experience and position availability.

Compensation

Factors that may affect starting pay within this range include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. The position may be eligible for annual bonuses and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the Company’s bonus and incentive plans.
