- Operates small equipment such as standard dump truck and flatbed trucks for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris.
- Performs manual labor in building catch basins, pouring concrete for curbs and raised median, laying pipes for driveways and other drainage structures, repairing shoulders, clearing right-of-ways.
- Repairs potholes and base surface failures of roadway using hand tools such as shovel, pick, rake and asphalt lute to level asphalt as needed.
- Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow to protect workers, general public and equipment.
- Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, may include being available for extended working hours.
There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
