Overview
A leading global machinery manufacturer is seeking a strategic and results-oriented Category Manager to oversee procurement activities for mechanical/metal fab commodities across North America. This role is responsible for developing and executing category strategies for components such as stampings, forgings, and castings, with a focus on cost optimization, supplier performance management, and category strategy development. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in mechanical supply chains, strong analytical capabilities, and a proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in a high-volume environment.
This is a high-impact role that interfaces with engineering, operations, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of sourced components into production.
Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr
Responsibilities- Strategic Leadership: Define and implement long-term commodity strategies across the electronics and electromechanical category that supports innovation, cost competitiveness, and supply continuity.
- Global Supplier Management: Build and manage relationships with international suppliers, ensuring alignment with quality, delivery, and cost expectations.
- Cost Driver Analysis: Conduct detailed process cost breakdowns and design-to-cost activities, leveraging deep technical knowledge of mechanical processes to challenge suppliers and identify the most efficient manufacturing methods for each part.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, operations, and quality teams to support new product development, cost reduction initiatives, and operational excellence.
- Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and manage supply chain risks, including geopolitical, logistical, and market-based disruptions.
- Performance Optimization: Continuously evaluate supplier performance and implement improvement plans to drive value and resilience.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and cost drivers to inform sourcing decisions and maintain competitive advantage.
- Global Engagement: Support international operations with up to 15% travel and flexible working hours to engage with teams and suppliers across EMEA and Asia-Pacific.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in global sourcing or commodity management, with a focus on electronics or electromechanical components.
- Proven success in developing and executing commodity strategies in a complex, global environment.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience managing international supplier relationships.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to assess commercial risk and drive data-informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to lead initiatives independently and collaboratively.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
