Eaton’s ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer in Sumter, SC. Relocation assistance will be offered to candidates that live 50 miles outside of Sumter, SC.
Expected annual salary range: $95,000 - $. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. Salaries are based on candidate skills, experience, and qualifications as well as market and business considerations.
What You’ll Do- Interpret detailed non‑standard customer requirements and translate them as closely as possible into previously established standards.
- Contact field sales and/or the end customer or Consulting Engineer as required to ensure accurate interpretation of the intent of the specifications.
- Interpret detailed written descriptions of operating sequences and convert them to control and protection schematics.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical interfaces with other products.
- Complete all phases of the custom order engineering process to ensure accurate and timely completion of Customer Approval (CA) and Manufacturing Information (MI) drawings.
- Consult with Plant and Field Sales Engineers in interpreting and defining new equipment applications.
- Conduct special development/application projects.
- Take lead in preparation and presentation of training materials for front end and shop personnel to support continuous learning and increased proficiencies in technical applications of P&S products.
- Proactively participate on cross functional teams in support of implementing lean manufacturing strategies, including front end business process improvement.
- Interface with the Design Engineering department when necessary for development of switchboard custom designs.
- Interface with Quality/Warranty Department to ensure continued post‑shipment customer support.
- Support the Quality Department by assisting in troubleshooting problems during electrical testing and developing test procedures.
- Demonstrate clear understanding of the full breadth of product line offering, including complex wiring and design applications to provide exceptional solution‑selling support to field sales and/or channel partners.
- Achieve certification in Six Sigma, ELS, or other critical tools to support enterprise‑wide goals for continuous improvement.
- Lead project team chartered with a goal of improving productivity, reducing cycle time, and/or achieving major cost savings.
- Adhere to all safety rules and procedures, including 5S requirements, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate management or ESP/ELS representative as required.
- Provide On‑the‑Job training for new COE engineers and Senior COE engineers.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of electrical engineering experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of PLC Programming.
- Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience managing people or project teams.
Position Criteria
- Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering.
- Understanding of established design standards and their application in power distribution and control systems.
- Proficiency in PLC programming/troubleshooting and HMI interface.
- Computer literacy – proficient in the use of Bid Manager, Plant Order Manager, AutoCAD, and other AS400 systems as they apply to MI generation and order processing.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to prepare training material and other supporting documentation.
