Eaton’s ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Lead Design Engineer – Direct Current. This hybrid role is located at our Sumter, SC facility, with relocation assistance available for qualified U.S. candidates.

The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for standardizing engineering systems across Eaton’s Panel board and Switchboard product lines, developing best‑in‑class products and features through research, design, validation, deployment, and maintenance per market needs, and providing technical expertise on switchboard and panel board products. The position supports nineteen operational sites (Sumter, Juarez, El Paso, and 16 satellites) in ensuring design accuracy for existing products and launching new ones.

The expected annual salary range is $94,000 – $138,000, with eligibility for a variable incentive program. Salaries are based on candidate skills, experience, and market considerations.

• Develop, design, validate, and manage implementation of new best‑in‑class DC power distribution equipment.
• Translate internal and external customer requirements into measurable performance criteria.
• Assist in developing the schedule and budget for new product development projects.
• Develop technical communications: datasheets, interface control documents, test plans, etc.
• Design, model, and test product prototypes.
• Maintain and improve existing products through design and competitive analysis.
• Collaborate with other Eaton Electrical businesses and external suppliers to develop new features and design opportunities within the product line scope.
• Integrate best practices from functional teams to deliver high‑quality, best‑in‑class designs.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable national and local electrical codes and standards (UL, NEC, NEMA, OSPHD).
• Participate in codes and standards organizations as necessary (UL, NEC, CSA, NEMA, CANENA).
• Represent the product line as a lead technical consultant.
• Serve as a commercial & technical resource for the product line—answering complex customer or field sales questions.
• Lead new product and standard designs for the Panel board & Switchboard lines.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 5 years of design experience with low‑voltage electrical distribution equipment.
• Minimum 1 year of design experience with DC electrical distribution equipment at 250 VDC or above, or equivalent experience with switchboards.
• Applicants will not receive immigration sponsorship or support.

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or electronics engineering.
• 5+ years of design experience with DC electrical distribution equipment at 250 VDC or above.
• 2+ years of design experience with UL 50, UL 67, and UL 891.
• Certified Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.

• Good verbal and written communication skills with persuasive and analytical problem‑solving abilities.
• Proficiency in engineering software/tools (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Enovia).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with Autodesk Inventor.
• Knowledge of product life‑cycle management systems.
• Predictive analysis such as CFD (thermal flow), FEA (stress analysis), and electromagnetics.
• Fabrication methods for sheet metal, plastic, copper, and aluminum.
• Proper bus joint design.
• Up to 10% travel.

Expected to work independently, make decisions affecting the workgroup, and focus on attaining assigned goals and objectives. Must manage multiple priorities, analyse complex problems, and implement solutions. Effective communication across all levels of the organization is required. This position demands high responsiveness and proactive problem solving to strengthen enterprise‑wide customer satisfaction. Team‑orientation, self‑initiative, strong multitasking, and time‑management skills are essential.
