Senior Electrical Engineer – Critical Power Systems
Location: Sumter, SC (Remote – quarterly travel to facility required)
Salary Range: $110,000 – $150,000

Our client, a privately held engineering and manufacturing company in the critical power systems space, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its growing team. This organization designs and supports complex power distribution and control systems used in demanding environments, including defense, marine/maritime, and data center applications

This is an exciting opportunity to join a company known for its strong culture, technical depth, and long-term project ownership. The role is open to fully remote candidates who are willing to travel to the Sumter, SC facility once or twice per quarter

Military or Marine/Maritime industry experience is required.
Role OverviewThe Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the design, engineering, and validation of advanced power and control equipment, owning projects end-to-end—from concept and design through production support, field issues, and long-term system sustainment.
You will collaborate closely with internal engineering, production, and quality teams, as well as external customers, suppliers, and subcontractors, to ensure systems are delivered on time, meet technical requirements, and perform reliably in the field.
What You’ll Be Responsible For- Develop electrical designs, schematics, and documentation for power distribution and control systems
- Engineer solutions for new builds and retrofit/obsolescence replacement projects
- Ensure designs comply with customer specifications and applicable standards (MIL, ABS, ANSI, IEEE, UL)
- Support qualification testing to MIL/IEC requirements, including shock, vibration, and EMI
- Provide day-to-day engineering support to assembly, wiring, and test/QA teams
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during build, FAT, and SAT activities
- Prepare and maintain drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and technical submittals
- Support project planning and milestone tracking using tools such as Microsoft Project or Planner
- Partner with sales and proposal teams on technical input for bids and new opportunities
- Engage directly with customers on technical discussions and design decisions
- Provide occasional on-site support for commissioning, troubleshooting, or project reviews
- Identify opportunities to improve product designs, engineering workflows, and documentation
- Contribute to best practices within an ISO 9001 quality environment
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mechatronic Engineering
- 7+ years of experience in electrical product or system design
- Hands‑on experience with power distribution systems and switch gear (or closely related equipment)
- Required background in military or marine/maritime environments
- Strong knowledge of low-, medium-, and high-voltage switch gear and components
- Experience with PLC-based control systems and programming
- (ladder logic, function block, and/or structured text)
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and CAN-based networks
- Ability to design to military and industry standards (MIL, ABS, ANSI, IEEE, UL)
- Exposure to qualification testing for shock, vibration, and EMI
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard productivity tools
- Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD (Solid Works or similar is a plus)
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external partners
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required
