Scrub Tech - Urology

Responsibilities

• Performs sterile preparation of access sites, including femoral, jugular, radial, pedal, abdominal procedures, and biopsies.
• Manages all sharps, wires, catheters, and ancillary devices during procedures with the physician—including device preparation, loading, and assistance during arterial closure.
• Transports patients to and from the holding area to the operative suite.
• Prepares the sterile operative tray, handling all medical devices and supplies.
• Operates angiography and ultrasound equipment, including positioning, troubleshooting, and patient demographic entry.
• Responsible for image and data transfer to PACS; verifies daily image transfer for each case and documents in the logbook.
• Performs according to radiation safety principles (ALARA training) and documents radiation dose and fluoroscopy time in the procedural logbook.
• Maintains lead protective equipment cleanliness and monitors radiation badges.
• Unpacks, organizes, and restocks inventory of medical devices.
• Communicates with IR center administration and vendors regarding ordering of medical devices.
• Operates and utilizes the Spacetrax inventory management software to maintain adequate par levels daily.
• Previews patient schedule to pull all necessary inventory for procedures.
• Clears procedure room after procedures, including cleaning of equipment and machinery.
• Disposes of hazardous waste according to OSHA standards.
• Assists with maintaining environmental integrity and aesthetics, ensuring all areas are clean, sanitary, and safe daily.
• Inspects equipment daily before and after procedures to ensure proper working condition, and recommends replacements or repairs.
• Oversees inventory usage with the IR Centers administrative team; adjusts inventory par levels, orders supplies when below par, runs monthly cycle count reports, and generates monthly expiration reports.
• Draws up intravenous medication and labels per Medication Labeling Policy in the Sterile Field Competency; may perform instrument sterilization and package surgical instruments.
• Complies with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient confidentiality.

• BLS
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Radiologic Technologist (RT)
