Overview

Track Varsity Assistant Coach - Sun Prairie Area School District

Starting stipend: $2850+ (Based on Experience). Season runs March through June. This is a Pole Vault Coach.

Summary:

To assist the varsity or non-varsity head coach in helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill development, and to foster values of student connectedness, discipline, sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

Responsibilities
  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
  • Oversee safety conditions of the facility or area where the sport is conducted.
  • Maintain accurate statistics, records, and results of the season.
  • Collaborate with the athletic director, varsity head coach and/or non-varsity head coach in implementing the philosophy and direction of the sport.
  • Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times; establish and oversee penalties for breaches of standards by students.
  • Maintain competency in rules, interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport.
  • Enforce WIAA and district policies regarding eligibility criteria in interscholastic competition and monitor through district software.
  • Adhere to an injury prevention and follow-up program.
  • Use good decision-making skills and demonstrate emotional maturity; show loyalty and support for the head coach and program.
  • Carry out other sports duties as directed by the head coach; represent the district professionally.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the athletic department.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises students of the program.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to eligible individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Education and/or Experience

Experience in coaching preferred. First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogen training is required. Knowledge in sports medicine would be desirable.

Communication and Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, or district employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Other

Skills and Abilities

Exhibit leadership and organizational ability; cooperate with staff and school administration. Apply knowledge of current research and theory; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Communicate clearly in verbal and written form. Use computers and other technology to accomplish job responsibilities; comply with district, WIAA, and School Board policies.

Analytical and Reasoning Ability

Apply common sense understanding to follow instructions and solve problems with several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Temperaments

Ability to connect, inspire, and lead students with diverse learning styles and backgrounds; direct others; work with people with differing opinions; maintain poise under stress; prioritize student interests.

Physical Attributes

The physical demands described are representative of those required to perform the essential functions; reasonable accommodations may be made for eligible individuals. Duties may include walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, and repetitive motion. Vision and hearing requirements are as described for maintaining safety and communication.

Work Environment

Work may be indoors or outdoors depending on the sport; meet deadlines under time constraints; interact with the public and other workers. Noise level is usually moderate.
