Job Description:
Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.
About the role:
We are now looking for the Senior Completion Engineer to join our Wells Global Concept Development and NOJV team! From one of our hub locations in either the US or Sunbury, you will be supporting bp's world-wide regional teams in successfully developing capitally efficient and inherently safe well concepts and full field development strategies across bps global portfolio. In this position, you will manage high degrees of uncertainty and support senior stakeholders in making business decisions.
What you will deliver:
Strong safety leadership that reflects bps values. Ensure all well construction activities align with bps Operating Management System, Engineering Practices, basis of design, and applicable regulatory requirements. Engineering and design work including contingencies on time and in alignment with bps Engineering Practices and OMS, including applying for deviations where appropriate. Ensure adherence to Equipment Integrity Assurance Guidelines and Supply Chain processes, including planning for long-lead items.
Continuously apply industry standards and technology to improve well design, execution efficiency, and cost performance. Constructively challenge existing design assumptions and execution philosophies to unlock value and improve design robustness. Apply wells standards, workflows, and engineering tools consistently across daily tasks and project deliverables. Integrate well control requirements into all stages of well design and ensure well barrier documentation supports concept development.
Review completion performance against critical metrics; drive lessons learned, best practice sharing, and continuous improvement. Lead and coordinate multi-functional workshops. Collaborate closely with internal completions and sand control SMEs. Act as a thought partner within the GCD and NOJV Manager, collaborating with other well engineers to provide integrated, end-to-end solutions to the businesses and customers we support. Work with multidisciplinary teams to create and test well concepts, assess feasibility, and develop optimization scenarios.
Integrate with facilities and subsurface teams to drive ideation and generate development options. Provide defendable time and cost estimates for single-well and multi-well scenarios. Demonstrate a creative, concept-challenging approach in FEL activities. What you will need to be successful:
Bachelors degree in science, Engineering, or an equivalent technical field. Significant experience as a Completions Engineer (domestic and/or international). Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams using agile delivery methods. Working knowledge of petrophysical inputs to completions design, including geomechanical models, tracers, and baseline evaluations across completion and stimulation types. Ability to define and develop flow assurance strategies for preventing wax, scale, and asphaltene deposition.
Experience optimizing integrated tubing lift/reservoir models and conducting inflow performance analysis using appropriate software tools. Ability to estimate new-well value (incremental rate/resources, NPV), communicate risk and uncertainty, and support decision-making with clear mitigation strategies and surveillance requirements. Ability to identify sand control candidates and design, install, and operate sand management systems for sand-prone reservoirs. Experience using analogue field data to assess solids production risk, troubleshoot equipment/systems, and recommend compliant solids-handling solutions.
Ability to evaluate scale prediction modeling and recommend appropriate prevention/removal methods specific to scale types. Strong capability in identifying and communicating subsurface uncertainties, assumptions, and alternative scenarios, and proposing significant risk-management strategies. Experience using tubing-distortion calculations and nodal analysis software for complex completion design and diagnosing well performance issues. Ability to describe subsea well intervention requirements, outline common workover activities, and classify rig and rigless intervention types (e.g., recompletions, water shutoff).
Experience evaluating completion performance using PI, pressure-buildup, and PTA data; recommending well work and recognizing when specialist support is required. Why join us? At bp, we support our people to grow in a diverse and exciting environment. We believe that our team is strengthened by diversity. There are many aspects of our…
