The Sunbury/Big Walnut Chamber of Commerce is searching for its next leader! We encompass the growing City of Sunbury and surrounding Big Walnut area. With 240+ members and an updated strategic plan, we are looking toward our future! This includes proximity to technology based economic development projects in our community. We have an experienced and dedicated Board of Directors, strong partnerships with local governments, and an engaged membership base.
The Chamber is poised for exciting growth. The Big Walnut area is a thriving, diverse, and inclusive community that continues to attract new businesses, manufacturing experts, and innovative leaders.
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Chamber of Commerce and is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day management of the organization. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director develops and executes initiatives that promote business growth, foster community partnerships, and support the Chamber’s mission to strengthen and advocate for the business community.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced, dynamic leader with Chamber of Commerce or association management experience, strong communication skills, and a passion for building relationships and driving positive impact.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to implement the strategic plan that advances the Chamber’s mission and vision.
- Evaluate and enhance Chamber programs, policies, and services to ensure ongoing relevance and value to members.
- Lead long‑range planning efforts that align with the economic development goals of the Big Walnut area and local businesses.
- Develop and implement strategies for membership growth, engagement, and retention.
- Serve as the primary liaison and advocate for Chamber members, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
- Foster relationships with local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to strengthen partnerships and drive collaboration.
- Represent the Chamber at public meetings, community events, and business gatherings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, civic leaders, and regional organizations to advance Chamber initiatives.
- Serve as a key advocate for business‑friendly policies and initiatives at the local and regional levels.
- Manage the Chamber’s budget, finances, and administrative operations to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.
- Oversee all bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.
- Identify and pursue sponsor ships, grants, and revenue‑generating opportunities to support Chamber programs and events.
- Lead the Chamber’s marketing and communications strategy, including newsletters, e‑blasts, website updates, and social media engagement.
- Develop and promote Chamber events, programs, and networking opportunities that enhance member visibility and engagement.
- Serve as the public face of the Chamber—delivering compelling presentations and community messages.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to implement policies, prepare reports, and ensure effective governance.
- Hire, train, and manage staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative, positive, and high‑performing culture.
- Bachelor’s or associates’ degree in business, communications, public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 1–3 years of leadership experience a Chamber of Commerce, business association, nonprofit, or related organization.
- Strong understanding of small business needs, economic development, and community engagement.
