Job description

We are seeking a passionate Functional Skills Tutor to support young people and adults in developing essential English and Maths skills that will equip them for future success. In this role, you will make a real difference to learners who may face a range of challenges, including previous adverse learning experiences, behavioural needs, and SEND. Your support will empower them to build confidence, achieve their goals, and overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will be qualified to at least Level 3 in an English or Maths subject specialism and hold a relevant teaching qualification. You will have proven experience in delivering Functional Skills English and Maths, along with the ability to plan and manage your own workload effectively. This is a peripatetic role, requiring you to travel to and work across various Springboard delivery sites.

Springboard operates in a demanding and often changing environment. Members of staff must be flexible, adaptable and willing to face up to changing circumstances and new opportunities.

  • Deliver engaging, high quality functional skills sessions to groups of learners
  • Plan lessons and adapt teaching methods to meet individual learner needs
  • Assess, monitor and track learner progress providing timely constructive feedback
  • Maintain up to date and accurate records of individual learning and progress through the programme, provide swift support and intervention for learners who start to fall behind
  • Assist the Maths and English Team Leader to develop strategies for success
  • Liaise with other Springboard staff regarding learner progression
  • Assist in the development of new initiatives as part of the ongoing commitment to the quality and progress of Springboard
  • Carry out duties in accordance with Quality Systems and Procedures
  • Adhere to Springboard’s policies on Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and other policy guidance
Person specification

Essential skills and experience

  • Qualified or working towards level 3 at the least in English or Maths.
  • Teaching qualification
  • Proven experience of English and Maths teaching
  • Previous experience of working with young people
  • Initiative and ability to plan own workload
  • Ability to deliver key objectives within agreed timescales
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication and team building
  • Good presentation skills
  • Up to date IT skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Effective teamwork
