Position: BSL Communication Support Assistant (Mainstream Primary)

We are recruitiong for one of pour partner schools in Sunderland...The Type of Person They Are Looking For

The school is looking for someone:

  • Confident interpreting in front of a class
  • Friendly, approachable, and engaging
  • Able to build strong bonds with children
  • Organised and proactive
  • Comfortable adapting quickly within a busy classroom
Daily Expectations & Routine

Morning:
You will begin by supporting your allocated pupil(s), ensuring they are ready for the school day and understand the structure ahead.

During Lessons:

  • Interpret spoken English into BSL
  • Support understanding of lesson content
  • Adapt teacher instructions when needed
  • Encourage participation in discussions

You will be expected to stay close to your student but also promote independence.

Break & Lunch:
You will remain with students, supporting communication during social interactions and helping them feel included.

End of Day:
You will finish between 3:30pm–4:30pm, depending on planning and staff meetings.

In-Class Expectations
  • Stay actively engaged
  • Ensure students are not isolated
  • Support literacy and comprehension
  • Work collaboratively with teachers

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
