Cover Manager

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary Range: Grade 6, SCP
23 – SCP
25 £ 34,434.00 - £36,363.00 FTE (pro rata £30,422.00 - £32,127.00)

Working Type: Full Time 37 hours per week, 39 working weeks, 45.942 paid weeks

Base: Hetton Academy, North Road, Hetton-le-Hole, Houghton-le-Spring DH5 9JZ

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

About the Role

We are seeking an organised, proactive and enthusiastic Cover Manager to play a key role in the smooth day‑to‑day running of our academy. Working in a fast‑paced environment, you will oversee the daily coordination of staff cover, manage Cover Supervisors, liaise with supply agencies and ensure lessons continue with minimal disruption.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily staff cover and manage Cover Supervisors
  • Liaise with supply agencies to secure appropriate cover staff
  • Ensure lessons continue with minimal disruption during teacher absences
  • Supervise whole classes while maintaining high‑quality learning
  • Manage student behaviour and support teaching staff
  • Support academy leaders and teaching staff to maintain smooth operations
Qualifications
  • Proven organisational, communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience in staff coordination or similar role
  • Commitment to safeguarding and the wellbeing of students
