Support the pastoral care, personal development and academic excellence of adult learners in Sunderland Sixth Form within the Access to HE team as a Wellbeing & Progression Coach. You will work closely with curriculum staff to help students improve learning skills, achieve personal targets and progress to higher education, training or employment.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide proactive support to students to ensure successful progression to Higher Education, Apprenticeships or employment, maintaining high attendance, punctuality, retention and achievement.
  • Plan and create opportunities for students to develop essential skills as outlined in curriculum plans, preparing them for higher education and matching career aspirations.
  • Support, monitor and encourage students to maintain excellent attendance and achievement, offering guidance to overcome challenges while maintaining student well‑being.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to plan and develop workshops and skills‑related resources for academic and skills development aligned with each cohort’s intended destination.
  • Support students with the UCAS process, including advice and guidance on personal statements.
  • Use Pro Monitor to support the Student Journey, maintaining accurate records, SMART targets, progression plans and ILPs.
Qualifications
  • Academic qualification at Level 3 or above.
  • Minimum Level qualifications in both Maths and English.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience working with young people or adults in group situations.
  • Experience supporting and addressing a range of learners’ needs, including wellbeing.
  • Experience promoting Higher Education progression routes and opportunities.
  • Effective written and oral communication with staff and students, fostering positive working partnerships.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Use of an understanding and empathetic approach with students who display dissatisfaction or disengagement, implementing strategies to overcome challenges.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Responsibility for PREVENT and safeguarding the welfare of children and/or vulnerable adults.
  • Uphold British Values, the college values and responsibilities with regard to equality and diversity.
  • Suitable to work with children and young people and adults.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Coaching or mentoring qualification, or willingness to complete one.
  • Experience working within the post‑16/adult sector, within an educational setting.
  • Experience using learner progress tracking systems effectively.
  • Understanding of the issues and barriers related to wellbeing and ineffective learning.
