Job Summary
An enthusiastic, conscientious and dedicated mechanical maintenance craftsperson is required to join a team of engineering crafts persons responsible for the maintenance and repair of mechanical plant and equipment at buildings maintained by CHoICE Facilities Services. The successful candidate will act as a Competent Person for multiple engineering services under HTM 00 and support CHoICE to meet statutory, mandatory and best‑practice commitments.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake maintenance and installation work across the full range of engineering services managed by CFS, including surveys, inspections, fault finding, servicing and rectification of engineering system faults.
- Provide technical advice, guidance and, where appropriate, supervision to CFS staff, contractors and Trust colleagues.
- FS shift pattern/system, current on‑call rota and undertake overtime when required, with appropriate remuneration.
- Operate and maintain large‑scale mechanical systems such as AHUs, LTHW systems, steam plants, pressure systems, medical gas systems, refrigeration plants and BMS control.
- Knowledge and experience of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems typical of a large NHS Acute Trust.
- Detailed knowledge of mechanical system requirements and regulations; experience of complex fault diagnosis and formulation of technical solutions. i>
- Completion of City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, plus a formally recognised, relevant, and accredited apprenticeship.
- Basic numeracy, literacy and IT skills; proficiency in building management system applications (e.g., BMS, fire alarm, labour management).
Nevessary to hold a Competent Person status capable of accepting a permit to work from an authorised person.
- Experience working within an NHS hospital environment.
- Experience of operating Building Management Systems (BMS).
- HVAC Competent Person Certificate, Legionella Management Competent Person Certificate and other relevant specialist training.
- Ability to travel to all Trust sites and undertake moderate physical activities for long periods, including regular movement and handling.
- High physical dexterity for hand‑eye coordination and manipulation of fine tools.
- Self‑motivated with a flexible approach to working hours and on‑call shift requirements.
