Commercial Domestic Investigations are recruiting for an apprentice credit controller/collector to join their busy office based in Sunderland. The successful candidates will learn all aspects of credit control and gain a recognised Level 2 qualification upon completion of the apprenticeship. We are looking for a proactive Credit Control / Collector Apprentice to join our finance team. This apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in credit control, invoicing, and account management.
You will support the finance team in ensuring that payments are received on time, customer accounts are accurately maintained, and any outstanding debts are efficiently managed. This is an ideal role for someone looking to start a career in finance and credit control, with full training and support provided.
- Assist with processing and issuing customer invoices
- Monitor and follow up on outstanding payments
- Communicate with customers regarding overdue accounts and payment arrangements
- Update and maintain accurate customer account records
- Support with preparing reports on overdue payments and aged debt
- Assist with reconciling payments and resolving account discrepancies
- Chase overdue balances by a variety of different methods
- Liaise across all levels of responsibility, from Director to credit controller
- Work towards and achieve collections targets
- Develop relationships with customers and identify additional sales opportunities
- Produce client reports
- Update CRM
- Raise, chase and conclude cases for customers
- Conduct a high volume of outbound calls, adapting your approach to suit your customer and their business requirements
- Listen actively and use your objection‑handling skills where necessary to ensure positive outcomes are reached for customers
- Manage your own customer pipeline and diarise customer callbacks
- Securely manage customer documentation
- Maintain excellent customer service levels
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, maintaining regular communication to build trust and rapport
- Deliver excellent service to customers using the organisation's systems and processes; contribute to individual and team objectives, in line with the employer's policy; work in a way that reflects organisational values and complies with standards and regulatory requirements
- Carry out a range of tasks, which may include credit application processing, cash allocation and reconciliation
- Proactively contact customers to collect outstanding balances, debt; maintain accurate records of communications, actions; resolve disputes straightforwardly; and recommend write‑offs
- Plan work: organise your own accounts, complete tasks to required deadlines, track individual customer accounts where necessary, take ownership through to completion, and escalating when required, e.g. potential debt risk
- Work with colleagues and other business areas to achieve results; build and maintain good working relationships within teams and with other business areas where necessary
- Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues using a range of media and appropriate language, e.g. phone, email, SMS, letter and face‑to‑face; build good relationships with customers, recognise their importance to the organisation and adapt your style to that of the customer while actively listening to understand their needs; handle difficult and sensitive situations professionally
- Negotiate and make decisions: work with customers to identify mutually acceptable solutions to credit issues within organisational guidelines; take ownership through to resolution and escalating where necessary
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve work practices and implement changes as required
- Seek feedback and act on it to improve performance; build your own capability through ownership of your development, working with your manager; keep up to date with relevant changes
- Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end point assessment
