Environmental Enforcement Support Officer

Overview

Fixed term - 12 months. Sunderland City Council has an exciting opportunity for two Environmental Enforcement Support Officers to support the delivery of the Community Safety function across the city.

These roles play a vital part in protecting Sunderland2s neighbourhoods by supporting action against environmental crime, including fly-tipping and waste-related offences that negatively impact residents and communities.

Working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary Community Safety team, you will provide practical, on-the-ground support to investigations and enforcement activity, helping to ensure that environmental issues are dealt with proportionately, professionally, and effectively.

• Responding to reports of fly-tipping and environmental crime
• Gathering evidence, carrying out enquiries, and supporting enforcement investigations
• Working outdoors across the city in all weather conditions
• Operating Council vehicles and equipment safely and professionally
• Engaging with members of the public and partner organisations to support safer neighbourhoods

• Full driving licence with entitlement to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes (Category C1)
• Ability to work a 5 over 7 rota, including evenings and weekends
• Experience in a public-facing or operational role
• Confident communication skills, with the ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
• A proactive, problem-solving approach and a commitment to community safety
