Assistant Psychologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join the Community Acquired Brain Injury Service (CABIS). CABIS is a fast paced and vibrant team providing community based neuro‑rehabilitation to adults (16 years and over) with acquired brain injuries (ABI) and their carers.

This would be an excellent opportunity for anyone who is keen to gain experience of working with neuropsychology as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, to support those with acquired brain injuries living in the community. The post will also offer an opportunity to learn about the administration and interpretation of psychometric assessments, to support formulation and intervention.

The post holder will be supervised by Neuropsychology and supported to implement goal based neurorehabilitation within the community, and in doing so, the will gain insights into assessment and treatment from different therapeutic perspectives.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for individuals with enthusiasm and an interest in the area of neuro‑rehabilitation and neuropsychology. Applicants must be able to work in a truly multidisciplinary team and be willing to learn from those with an ABI, fellow staff and other service providers in the community.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications
  • Upper 2nd class honours degree, or higher, in psychology.
  • Eligibility for graduate membership of British Psychological Society.
  • Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Paid or unpaid work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities.
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice.
  • Evidence of providing individual or group interventions.
Skills and competencies
  • High level of communication skills (written and oral), including an ability to communicate and work in highly emotive circumstances.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information to clients, carers and colleagues.
  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems and other disabilities.
  • Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health / cognitive impairment / disability context.
  • Computer literate, including use of databases & data analysis, e.g. SPSS for Windows.
  • Demonstrates graduate level knowledge and experience of research and research methodology.
  • An understanding of psychology applied to healthcare.
  • A high standard of report writing.
