Clinical Pharmacist

The closing date is 23 March 2026

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust seeks to recruit multiple pharmacists to our team of Band 6 rotational pharmacists undertaking a structured foundation training programme that includes the opportunity for educational and financial support for the clinical Diploma, advanced clinical skills and formal Prescribing qualification.

The Pharmacy service and its team are fully embedded into the wider clinical specialities, and this is reflected in the fact that we operate a seven-day clinical service across the two sites. Our modern service benefits from full electronic prescribing, decision support and automated dispensaries in our main inpatient and outpatient sites.

Main duties of the job

After a structured eight-week induction programme you will join the clinical teams on a rotational programme delivering Integrated Medicines Management at the bedside. You will spend over 90% of your time outside of dispensaries on direct patient care which will include clinical experience in admission and discharge management, consultant ward rounds, medicines information and chemotherapy and TPN. You will gain experience of caring for patients in general medicine, general surgery, surgical specialties, elderly care and emergency medicine.

You will be a registered pharmacist with a positive and flexible approach, seeking clinically-focused practice and have the desire to develop clinical decision-making and prescribing skills.

Trainee pharmacists are welcome to apply, including anyone who wishes to transfer into the Hospital sector.

37.5 hours per week plus weekend and evening working. When a weekend is worked you will be allocated two rest days the following week.
