Training Coordinator and Stop Smoking Practitioner

ABL Health and Sunderland Council are partnered to deliver the Stop Smoking Service across Sunderland. It seeks to work collaboratively with communities to support the transformation of services for the local population. The service will provide integrated behaviour support for smoking cessation embedded in sustainable behaviour change and positive wellbeing. We offer up to 12 weeks support through an individual quit programme through weekly tailored advice and support from a Specialist Practitioner.

Main

duties of the job

The successful candidate will work under the line management of the Service Manager for the Sunderland Stop Smoking Service and support the development, delivery and promotion of the service across the borough. The role involves working with ABLs communications team to raise the service profile, engaging with local partners and stakeholders to increase awareness and develop referral pathways, and building strong relationships with primary and secondary care colleagues, community organisations and other services.

Responsibilities include organising and delivering training such as Very Brief Advice (VBA), monitoring referral data to support service targets, attending local meetings and events to promote the service, and supporting communications activities including awareness sessions, events and social media promotion. The postholder will also contribute to service monitoring and development, maintain partnership records, provide progress updates, and support co-production activities with residents and stakeholders.

This varied role requires a proactive and innovative individual who is comfortable engaging with partners and representing the service, with occasional evening or weekend work required for events.

About us

ABL is an exciting fast-paced, growing community health organisation. As an experienced, CQC registered, provider of community health services, we are passionate about delivering evidence based, innovative, effective and relevant health care services in partnership with individuals, communities and stakeholders.

Job responsibilities

You will be the training co-ordinator, for Sunderland Stop Smoking Service covering all areas of Sunderland with a focus on areas of deprivation and higher smoking prevalence.

You will be expected to deliver training (Very Brief Advice, MECC and support delivery for Level 2/Universal Provider training) to external organisations and drive awareness of the service. You will be responsible for arranging training days, engaging with organisations to take part and offering continuing support to those who attend. This will involve being responsible for developing and maintaining strong, positive and long-lasting relationships with a wide range of stakeholder groups at district level, including but not limited to leisure services, the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprises (VCFSE) sector, and community services as well as GP practices and maternity services.

You will also be expected to support with face to face and telephone stop smoking clinics, engaging with clients to help them quit smoking.

You will be a motivated, passionate, organised and proactive communicator, with experience of working in a training setting. ABL take a strengths-focused, asset-based approach to training delivery, looking to innovate and partner, not replicate existing delivery.

No two days will be the same in this varied and flexible role. If you are as comfortable spending a day with the team as you are working independently and confidently with new people and are highly organised this could be the job for you.

This is a demanding job, but you will not be on your own. ABLs highly experienced and friendly multi-disciplinary team of Health and Social Care professionals, Business Intelligence, Service Development, Governance, Finance and Business Development are there to support. Additionally, existing experienced delivery teams will be available to support you to drive the Service forward.
