Overview

By using CompTIA practice, learn, and labs provided to you as part of your apprenticeship, you’ll be able to prepare yourself for the following exams:

  • CompTIA A+ (Exam 1 and
    2)
  • CompTIA Cloud Essentials
Job Purpose

Provide first‑line IT support to TCAT schools for all aspects of IT infrastructure, including networking, server hardware, and software, resolving support issues with guidance from team members and skills learned from the apprenticeship and on‑the‑job training.

Key Result Areas
  • Provision of an IT helpdesk support service to schools.
  • Provide hardware support services to meet school requirements including installing, upgrading, maintaining and supporting IT hardware.
  • Support school and central team staff and pupils with the use of IT equipment and software.
  • Undertake IT equipment repairs.
  • Install computer software as required.
  • Provide support for in‑school events requiring IT equipment/support, including assemblies, visiting speakers, parents' evenings, etc.
  • Complete any ad‑hoc project work, as required.
  • Attend and fully complete education courses and assessments that are part of the apprenticeship programme.
  • The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those listed, and duties may vary over time without changing the general character of the role.
Variation in the Role

Because the role and the Trust’s structure are dynamic, adjustments to the role and responsibilities may occur at short notice. Duties for the post may change over time in line with the grading level and after consultation with the line manager.

Training You Will Be Provided With
  • Comprehensive introductory modules to technical concepts
  • Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship standard
  • Training for all IT career pathways (support, network, digital communications technician)
  • Specialising in a portfolio of evidence for the support technician pathway
  • E‑learning training materials
  • Bi‑weekly virtual classroom training on all apprenticeship options
  • Access to virtual labs for technical competency development
  • Monthly work‑based coach visits and competency checks
  • 9 am – 5 pm support desk for technical support
  • Personal learning, thinking skills and key skills development
  • Option for vendor and technical certificates – e.g. CompTIA

You will also have the opportunity to network with other apprentices who can share ideas, offer suggestions and provide support. Our apprentices love helping each other!

You will have access to our online portal, offering technical guidance and links to the helpdesk for real‑time advice.
