We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Caretaker to join a welcoming secondary school in Sunderland. This is a fantastic opportunity for a practical individual with facilities or premises experience to help maintain a safe, secure, and well-presented environment for students and staff.

Working as part of the school's facilities team, you will support the effective day-to-day operation of the premises. The position combines practical maintenance with site security, health and safety, housekeeping, porterage, and general facilities support.

As a Caretaker, you will help ensure the school premises are well maintained and its facilities continue to function correctly.

• Carry out routine maintenance and first-line repairs across the school premises.
• Support planned and reactive maintenance activities.
• Undertake routine health and safety, premises, and fire safety checks.
• Support opening, locking, and general security of the school site.
• Monitor security systems, alarms, locks, and CCTV and report faults where required.
• Support contractors working on site.
• Carry out porterage of furniture, equipment, goods, and deliveries.
• Support housekeeping, waste management, cleaning, and grounds maintenance requirements.
• Monitor plant and equipment and report faults or hazards promptly.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and adverse weather conditions.
• Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

• Previous practical experience maintaining facilities or premises.
• A working knowledge of buildings and carrying out first-line repairs.
• Good knowledge of health and safety procedures.
• The ability to organise and prioritise workloads effectively.
• Confidence using small tools and undertaking practical tasks.
• A reliable, flexible, and solution-focused approach.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a facilities team.
• Relevant Caretaking, Trade, Facilities, or First Aid Qualifications – Desirable.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
