We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Assistant Store Manager to join our Revive Sunderlandteam. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced retailer who is passionate about delivering excellent customer service, supporting volunteers and helping to make a real difference within the local community.
Reporting to the Store Manager
, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the shop, helping to maximise sales, Gift Aid income and donated stock while ensuring the store is safe, welcoming and well presented.
Working closely with the Store Manager, volunteers and colleagues across the Society, you'll help deliver commercial success by driving sales, maintaining high retail standards and supporting the recruitment and development of volunteers. You'll also contribute to community engagement, fundraising activities and the continued growth of the store.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You'll combine excellent retail skills with strong people management and a passion for charity retail, helping to generate vital income that enables the St Vincent de Paul Society to continue supporting people experiencing poverty and hardship.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Store Manager in achieving sales, profit and Gift Aid targets, ensuring costs are managed within agreed budgets.
- Maximise store income through effective merchandising, stock rotation and making the best use of available sales space.
- Support the generation of quality donated stock from the local community.
- Deliver an outstanding customer experience by maintaining high standards of service and presentation throughout the store.
- Assist with the recruitment, induction, training and retention of volunteers, creating a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Support stock management, including sorting, pricing, replenishment and rotation to maximise sales opportunities.
- Complete daily cash reconciliation, banking and cash handling procedures accurately and securely.
- Ensure compliance with all Society policies, retail procedures and relevant health and safety legislation.
- Act as a key holder and undertake Fire Marshal responsibilities where required.
- Contribute to local fundraising initiatives, community events and partnership working with SVP members and local organisations.
- Support the development of the store's social media presence and online sales activity where appropriate.
- Monitor retail performance against agreed KPIs and provide information and reports as required.
- Complete mandatory and role-specific training to support continuous professional development.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider Retail and Society teams to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the store.
Essential Criteria
- Previous retail experience within a busy retail environment.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets and delivering commercial results.
- Excellent customer service skills with a passion for delivering a positive customer experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with customers, volunteers and colleagues.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage competing demands.
- Experience using retail till or cash handling systems.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- A proactive and flexible approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Empathy with, and commitment to, the aims, values and mission of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
- Experience working within charity retail.
- Experience recruiting, training or managing volunteers.
- Knowledge of visual merchandising and retail presentation.
- Experience using EPOS systems.
- Experience of Gift Aid, online selling and social media.
- Understanding of reuse, recycling and sustainability within a retail environment.
