About the team:
The Earnings Controls team operates within the Spark Driver Earnings organization, focusing on enhancing the integrity, scalability, and reliability of Walmart’s gig-economy operations. This team designs and governs control frameworks to ensure accurate and compliant earnings disbursements and responsible business practices. Key areas include earnings calculations, tax withholding and reporting, identity verification, onboarding, payment disbursements, and contractor compliance. The team collaborates cross-functionally to implement operational controls that support business-process improvements and uphold compliance standards, driving operational excellence and accountability across Walmart’s independent contractor ecosystem.
What you'll do...
- Supportcontroldesignandimplementationacrosscontractorearningsprocesses,includingpaycalculations,incentive programs,deductions,tax withholding,1099reporting,andpaymentdisbursements
- Performcontrolassessmentsforthe Spark Driverearningsecosystem ,helpingidentifycontrolgapsandsupportingremediationefforts
- Collaborate with Engineering and Productteamstohelpdesignandvalidate ITdependentmanualcontrols(ITDMs) andITGeneral
Controls(ITGCs) overearningssystems - ContributetoSOXreadinessbymaintainingcontroldocumentation,risk-control matrices(RCMs),andprocessnarratives
- Helpbuildandmaintainmonitoringmechanismsincludingkeyriskindicators(KRIs) anddashboardsthatprovidevisibilityintocontrolhealth
- 5+yearsofexperienceininternalcontrols,SOX/ICFR,internal audit,operational risk,finance transformation,orrelatedrisk/control roles—preferablyinahigh-growthortechnology-enabled environment
- Familiaritywithgigeconomy,payments,orcontractoroperationsincludingexposureto
1099reporting,earnings disbursements,tax compliance,orsimilarmulti-partypaymentecosystems - Solidunderstandingofcontroldesigninevolvingenvironments—recognizingwhenlightweightguardrailswork,whenformalSOXcontrolsareneeded,andwhenautomationormonitoringisthebetterpath
- Workingknowledgeofcorecontrolsconceptsincludingpreventivevs.detective controls,manualvs.automated controls,IT-dependent controls,anddeficiencyevaluationframeworks
