Job Description: After-School Chess Instructor

Part-Time | In-Person Compensation: $24.00 – $26.00 per hour + mileage reimbursement

Do you enjoy working with kids and want to make a positive impact after school? Yes For Chess is seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join our team as After-School Chess Instructors starting this March!

We use the game of chess to teach elementary school students critical life skills such as problem-solving, patience, and planning—all in a fun and supportive environment. Don’t worry if you’re not a chess master—if you love the game and enjoy working with children, we’ll teach you the rest!

Responsibilities
  • Teach beginner to intermediate chess fundamentals to students ages 5–11
  • Lead engaging, structured sessions during after-school hours (typically 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM)
  • Inspire students through patience, encouragement, and creativity
  • Travel to assigned school sites in Palo Alto and Sunnyvale
  • Ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children (ages 5–11), such as tutoring, teaching, camp counseling, or mentoring
  • A passion for education and a desire to help students learn and grow
  • Reliable transportation and can commute to the school sites
  • Punctuality and professionalism
  • Availability to work 4–6 hours per week, Monday through Friday
  • Willingness to undergo a background check
  • Basic knowledge of chess is a plus, but we're happy to train the right candidate!
