Job Description: After-School Chess Instructor

Do you enjoy working with kids and want to make a positive impact after school? Yes For Chess is seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join our team as After-School Chess Instructors starting this March!
We use the game of chess to teach elementary school students critical life skills such as problem-solving, patience, and planning—all in a fun and supportive environment. Don’t worry if you’re not a chess master—if you love the game and enjoy working with children, we’ll teach you the rest!
Responsibilities- Teach beginner to intermediate chess fundamentals to students ages 5–11
- Lead engaging, structured sessions during after-school hours (typically 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM)
- Inspire students through patience, encouragement, and creativity
- Travel to assigned school sites in Palo Alto and Sunnyvale
- Ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
- Experience working with children (ages 5–11), such as tutoring, teaching, camp counseling, or mentoring
- A passion for education and a desire to help students learn and grow
- Reliable transportation and can commute to the school sites
- Punctuality and professionalism
- Availability to work 4–6 hours per week, Monday through Friday
- Willingness to undergo a background check
- Basic knowledge of chess is a plus, but we're happy to train the right candidate!
- Competitive pay: $24–$26/hour
