Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer, Mechanical Engineer
Cerebras Systems builds the world's largest AI chip, 56 times larger than GPUs. Our novel wafer-scale architecture provides the AI compute power of dozens of GPUs on a single chip, with the programming simplicity of a single device. This approach allows Cerebras to deliver industry-leading training and inference speeds and empowers machine learning users to effortlessly run large-scale ML applications, without the hassle of managing hundreds of GPUs or TPUs.
Cerebras' current customers include global corporations across multiple industries, national labs, and top-tier healthcare systems. In January, we announced a multi-year, multi-million-dollar partnership with Mayo Clinic, underscoring our commitment to transforming AI applications across various fields. In August, we launched Cerebras Inference, the fastest Generative AI inference solution in the world, over 10 times faster than GPU-based hyperscale cloud inference services.
AboutThe Role
This senior engineering role will be a key technical authority within the Site / Data Center Operations team, responsible for ensuring Cerebras’ facility providers deliver power, cooling, and plumbing infrastructure that meets the needs of high-density AI compute systems.
The role focuses on data center builds, retrofits, and operational readiness, working closely with colocation providers, hyperscale-class facility partners, and internal engineering teams. The ideal candidate has operated in large-scale data center construction environments, understands both hyperscale rigor and fast-paced build execution, and can hold vendors accountable to technical requirements.
Responsibilities- Act as a technical authority for data center power, cooling, and plumbing (MEP) systems supporting Cerebras deployments
- Partner with site operations, infrastructure, and hardware teams to translate Cerebras system requirements into facility-level design and build criteria
- Review, validate, and influence:
- Electrical one-line diagrams, power distribution, and redundancy models
- Cooling architectures (air, liquid, hybrid)
- Water systems, plumbing loops, and heat rejection strategies
- Ensure facility providers meet Cerebras requirements for:
- Power density, redundancy, and stability
- Cooling capacity and thermal performance
- Plumbing quality, materials, and operational safety
- Support new data center builds, expansions, and retrofits, including design reviews, construction oversight, and commissioning
- Participate in site acceptance testing, commissioning, and turnover to operations
- Identify facility-level risks and gaps; drive corrective actions with providers and partners
- Provide engineering input during incident analysis and postmortems related to power, cooling, or facility infrastructure
- 10+ years of experience in data center facilities engineering or construction
- Strong hands-on knowledge of MEP systems, including:
- Electrical distribution and redundancy
- Mechanical cooling systems
- Plumbing and water infrastructure
- Experience delivering large-scale data center builds at:
- Hyperscaler level and/or
- Fast-paced, high-density, rapid-deployment environments
- Demonstrated experience working with:
- Colocation providers
- Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partners
- Facility operators
- Ability to read, review, and challenge engineering drawings and design documents
- Strong communication skills and comfort interfacing with senior technical stakeholders
- There will likely be significant travel involved - at least 25%
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) – Electrical or Mechanical
- Experience supporting high-density compute or AI/HPC environments
- Familiarity with liquid-cooled or hybrid cooling data centers
- Experience with commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and facility turnover
- Background supporting both design-phase and operational-phase facilities
