Materials Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineer, Research Scientist
We are a stealth-mode battery technology company developing next-generation high-energy-density cells for aerospace and advanced mobility applications
. Our focus is on lithium metal–based cell architectures that significantly exceed the performance limits of conventional lithium-ion systems, while remaining grounded in manufacturability and safety.
The company is backed by experienced operators and technical leadership, with a clear path from R&D to prototype and pre-production deployment.
Role OverviewWe are seeking a Cell Engineer with hands-on lithium metal battery experience to play a core role in cell design, development, and scale-up. This position sits at the heart of our technical roadmap and will directly influence cell architecture, materials choices, and product direction.
You will work closely with a small, senior technical team to move from lab-scale concepts to robust prototype cells suitable for demanding, high-reliability applications.
Key Responsibilities Cell Design & Development- Design and optimise lithium metal cell architectures (lithium foil, anode-free, solid/semi-solid or hybrid systems)
- Lead hands-on cell build activities, including electrode preparation, cell assembly, and formation
- Define and evaluate electrolytes, separators, interfaces, and stack configurations
- Drive improvements in energy density, cycle life, safety, and efficiency
- Plan and execute electrochemical testing (cycling, rate performance, calendar life, abuse testing)
- Diagnose and mitigate lithium metal failure modes such as:
- Interfacial instability and degradation
- Use experimental data to iterate cell designs rapidly and systematically
- Support scale-up from coin and pouch cells to larger-format prototypes
- Collaborate with process engineers and external partners to improve repeatability and yield
- Identify manufacturability, cost, and supply-chain risks early in development
- Maintain rigorous experimental documentation and technical reports
- Contribute to patent filings and IP strategy
- Support technical discussions with partners, customers, and stakeholders as needed
- MSc or PhD in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- Direct, hands-on experience with lithium metal batteries (academic, startup, or industrial)
- Strong understanding of:
- Lithium metal anode behavior and SEI formation
- Electrolyte chemistry and interfacial phenomena
- High-energy-density cell trade-offs
- Demonstrated ability to build, test, and debug real cells
, not just model them - Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, early-stage environment with limited structure
- Solid-state or semi-solid electrolyte systems
- Pouch cell or larger-format lithium metal development
- Aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability battery applications
- Transition from lab-scale R&D to pilot or pre-production
- Familiarity with battery safety and qualification standards
