Under supervisor’s direction is responsible for accessioning, receiving, specimen processing and phlebotomy. Performs non‑technical laboratory duties such as responding to patient and physician inquiries, forwarding test results and distributing reports, sample preparation, equipment and machinery monitoring.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
- Access patient information into Laboratory information system(s). Check all requests for proper and accurate patient information. Consult with Supervisor or Technologist if request is problematic. Notify physician, nursing unit, clinic, etc. if sample received is inappropriate or compromised.
- Adhere to all safety/health regulatory and state/federal legal requirements and the policies, operating procedures, and Services Standard of the Hospitals.
- Assist in the routine monitoring of laboratory equipment and temperature‑controlled units, as well as working conditions. Report any equipment problems or irregularities i.e., temperature reading is outside the assigned acceptable or established ranges.
- Maintain assigned logs and records for all Laboratory transactions and information in accordance with department and regulatory requirements.
- Perform all patients’ draws in a timely and efficient manner.
- Follow laboratory policy for all STAT draw requests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens from patients according to the approved laboratory procedure. Validate patient information, confirm patient identification, and obtain specimens utilizing the proper age‑specific and sample type technique and equipment.
- Provide training and orientation to new Lab Assistants. Orients new employees to general lab procedures and trains them on non‑technical duties.
- Receive and process all specimens following the approved laboratory procedures. Ensure patient samples are distributed to the appropriate areas of the laboratory or routed to other hospital sections as required.
- Resolve problems encountered in routine work using knowledge of department processes, protocols, and fundamentals of the services provided by the Laboratory.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
