Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Principal/Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer based out of Sunnyvale, CA. You will support the manufacturing and testing of marine propulsion and power generation systems working on various manufacturing processes for high‑value gearing and steam turbine assemblies, machined components, and welded fabrications. This position will focus on optimizing capability of manufacturing tools and machinery.
WhatYou’ll Get To Do
- Oversee operation of capital machinery, specializing in machine tool systems (milling, boring, turning, hobbing, grinding).
- Optimize performance of equipment by implementing new capability (development of solutions to increase throughput and reduce cycle times using new tooling components/systems; programming techniques, control systems upgrades).
- Troubleshoot machine failures to minimize downtime, while collaborating with machine maintenance and equipment OEMs.
- Supports new capital procurement and the designs and arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
- Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
This position may be filled at the Principal or Senior Principal level depending on candidate experience.
Basic Qualifications For The Principal Manufacturing Engineer- Bachelor’s in a related STEM discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related STEM discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment as a process owner (process, equipment, documentation, special training).
- Hands on experience machining and troubleshooting of machines or being in a machine shop environment.
- Experience with machine tool equipment and control systems (large CNC mills, lathes, hobbers and grinders).
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- US citizenship required.
