Primary FunctionWeld various types, sizes and shapes of materials to make fabrications utilizing Stick, Mig and Flux Core welding processes, requiring care to produce a quality joint where methods, sequences, and tooling have been established.
Tools, Processes And Equipment- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
- FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding)
- GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding)
- Welding equipment, torches, regulators, floor operated cranes, welding positioners, fixtures, slag gun, grinder, hand truck, forklift, ladder, and scaffold
- PPE includes safety glasses, face shield, respirator, gloves, weld jacket and cap
Ferrous and nonferrous metals and their alloys, plate, structural shapes, castings and weldments; oxygen, acetylene and inert gases, flux, welding wire and rod.
Work Procedure And/or Responsibility Assigned- Receive work assignment from Group Leader and Supervision
- Read and follow safety regulations and procedures and weld symbols
- Set up equipment by adjusting amperage, voltage, pressures, feeds, and speeds within specified limits and obtaining the specified electrode
- Position and operate manual, semi-automatic and automatic welding equipment to deposit single and multiple layers and weld in all positions at joint locations specified, ensuring quality welds with uniform penetration
- Location of parts determined by others or by fixtures. Load and clamp material in fixtures against fixed stops
- Operate carbon arc torch to remove weldments from floorplate or strongback and braces from weldments
- Operate handling equipment to lift, move and position material
- Sign off operations completed and obtain first piece and final inspection signoffs on operation sheets as required
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition
- Make proper time charge entries and record data as required
- Maintain certification for welding ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys and pass periodic working tests
- Identify parts in accordance with method specified
- Perform work of equal or lower skill level as required
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- Minimum 2 years’ experience utilizing SMAW, FCAW, GMAW welding processes
- Experience interpreting blueprints, weld symbols, and manufacturing instructions
- US citizenship is required
- Minimum 5 years experience welding in an industrial heavy fabrication environment
- Experience with carbon arcing/backgouging
- Experience with American Welding Society or Military standards
