PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Set up, operate and adjust manual spray painting equipment to apply a wide variety of coatings to components and apparatus with a uniform texture, appearance and thickness. Steam clean, acid clean, preserve and present components to QC and customer for final assembly and shipping.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Spray guns, pressure pots, pumps, gauges, regulators, hose; spray booths, power sanders, steam cleaner pump paint mixer, scaffolding, respirator, protective clothing, floor operated crane, brushes, demmler cup, film thickness gauge, pliers, wrenches, screwdriver, hammers, scissors, and thermometer.

MATERIAL:

Modules, shipping containers, gears and gear assemblies, turbine rotors and turbine assemblies, sub-bases, generator sets, assemblies and parts of ferrous and nonferrous metals, wood, hardware, lacquers, varnishes, solvents, adhesives, thinners, epoxies, catalysts, citric acid, soda ash, fingerprint remover, sandpaper, rags, masking paper and tape.

WORKING PROCEDURE:

  • Receive work assignment from supervision.
  • Read and understand safety regulations and MI package including drawings, change notices, operation sheets, specifications and work authorizations.
  • Mix, strain and thin a variety of coatings. Check and adjust temperature and viscosity as required.
  • Assemble hoses, valves, agitator, pots, spray gun, tips, etc. and set proper air pressure, fluid flow and spray pattern to obtain proper atomization.
  • Operate spray equipment or use a brush to uniformly apply a variety of primers, finishes, and coatings to exacting thickness tolerances on various parts without runs, sags, pinholes or flaws.
  • Operate infrared heat lamps to cure coatings.
  • Touch up and rework final finish coatings by sanding, filling and feathering scratched and damaged areas to make surfaces uniform in texture, appearance and thickness.
  • Check coating for uniformity of texture, thickness and appearance to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Operate lifting and handling equipment to move material in the painting area.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition and notify supervision when painting materials are depleted.
  • Sign off operations completed and obtain first piece and final inspection sign off on operation sheets as required.
  • Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.
  • Perform other work of equal or lower classification as required.
  • Investigate rust removal problems using citric acid and soda ash where technique and processes are finalized requiring coordination with engineering.
  • Maintain Environmental daily usage logs for paints, preservation and solvents.
  • Read, understand and apply the requirements of the paint and preservation drawing for shipping marine products.
  • This is a Union Represented position.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.

    • Minimum of 2 years work experience with Automatic/Manual Spray equipment and materials, such as Graco spray guns, epoxy products and similar finishes.

    • Minimum of 2 years work experience with interpreting sketches or manufacturing instructions.

    • US citizenship is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior work experience in Aircraft, Military, Marine, Naval or Automotive painting.

    • Prior work experience operating cranes and forklifts.

    • Prior work experience with data entry in SAP and MRP systems.

    • Prior work experience Microsoft Office suite.
