Principal, Software Engineer

Our Conversational AI platform aims to deliver the world's best personal assistants to Walmart's customers, accessible via natural voice commands, text messages, rich UI interactions, and multi-modal experiences.

We believe conversations are a natural, powerful user interface that enable richer customer experiences online and in-store. We are building an Agentic AI platform for easy integration and development of diverse experiences, from voice and text shopping assistants to customer care channels and mobile apps with rich, multi-modal interactions.

Our team collaborates closely with US stores and eCommerce to serve customers through technological innovation, empowering team members, stores, and merchants. Focus areas include customer experience, store operations, merchant tools, data science, search, and personalization.

• Design, build, and improve capabilities in areas like service-oriented architecture, model orchestration, scalability, and resource management.
• Address non-trivial challenges in service scalability and availability for a large customer base.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of mission-critical products used daily by millions.
• Create demos, proof of concepts, white papers, and blogs as part of the emerging tech group.

• 8+ years in software engineering or related fields.
• Strong data skills, computer science fundamentals, and programming expertise.
• Hands-on full-stack development experience.
• Familiarity with Generative AI.
• Proficiency in modern programming languages like Java or C++.
• Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or Postgre
  
  SQL.
• Understanding of distributed data processing at scale.
• Ability to handle ambiguous problems, think abstractly, and lead projects from requirements to launch.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.

• Experience with large-scale distributed systems, scalability, and fault tolerance.
• Proven success in delivering complex data-driven software systems.
• Focus on scalability, latency, performance, and cost optimization in cloud environments.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure, and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with front-end to back-end technologies.
• Master's degree in Computer Science or related fields.
