Google’s software engineers develop next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. The Kernel Quality Team (KQT) is seeking a dynamic, experienced lead Software Engineer to join our Sunnyvale team responsible for engineering core infrastructure supporting the Linux Kernel’s management, test, and release.

• Write product or system development code.
• Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide among available technologies.
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
• Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
• 2 years of experience in embedded systems (e.g., firmware, Linux kernel, device drivers).
• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields (preferred).
• Experience working with Linux, software lifecycle and build tools, and architecting and developing software for scalable, distributed systems (preferred).
• Experience in Unix/Linux systems, IP networking, performance and application issues; solid knowledge of CI/CD best practices (preferred).
• Experience with Linux Kernel Internals (preferred).
