Job Overview
City of Sunnyvale is seeking a self‑motivated, energetic individual for a casual Lifeguard or Swim Instructor position (Job Code 9421). The role is seasonal or temporary and requires no benefits.
Responsibilities- Interact effectively with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers and city staff.
- Maintain constant surveillance over pool users.
- Attend and participate in in‑service trainings and meetings.
- Maintain and store equipment and supplies.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Organize, instruct and evaluate swim lessons.
- Set up and clean up after lessons.
- Enforce pool rules.
- Keep the facility clean, safe, and orderly.
- Perform swim instructor duties when required.
Prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, kneeling, stretching, twisting, turning, bending, squatting, stooping, eye‑hand coordination, manual dexterity, normal hearing and eyesight. Lift, drag, push or pull objects up to 50 lbs. Accommodations available for qualified individuals.
Minimum Qualifications- Swim Instructor:
Minimum age 16. - Lifeguard:
Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate (course may be taken after hire). - Valid class C CA driver’s license and safe driving record or alternate transportation.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin or Farsi.
- Experience interacting with the public.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
