Description- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.

Responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients including assessment, treatment, care planning, and medical care and evaluation by following established professional standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians.
Responsibilities- Obtains patient consent for care and ensures confidentiality; documents health history, chief complaint, vital signs and health risk factors; assesses disease condition.
- Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers medications, and monitors and documents progress and response.
- Referred to/consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to solve problems.
- Educates patients and families about health status and management of acute and chronic conditions.
- Documents assessments and interventions using established medical record systems.
- Maintains and reviews patient records; posts test results; maintains accurate medication inventory.
- Responds to, or refers incoming patient treatment-related calls.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Administers all medications: PO, IV, SC, IM as prescribed.
- Coordinates and executes treatment plans for patients.
- Schedules follow-up appointments.
- Collaborates with GIA Research department as required.
- Other duties as directed or assigned.
- Education:
RN degree, completion of accredited nursing training (BSN preferred). - Experience:
Minimum 3 years professional nursing experience; minimum 1 year infusion experience in acute, outpatient, home or physician office settings; gastroenterology experience preferred.
- Work as needed to cover infusion clinics; no recurring or set schedule.
- Current RN license and CPR certificate; CRNI certification preferred.
- Knowledge of nursing processes, healthcare systems, technology, equipment, state laws, and policies.
- Proficiency in obtaining and maintaining intravenous access via peripheral IV or central venous access devices.
- Knowledge of charting documentation and HIPAA laws.
- OSHA safety awareness.
- Skills in patient care coordination, time management, problem solving, multitasking, communication, crisis interventions, triage, and record maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret orders, calculate drug dosages, maintain quality control, and perform additional clinical duties as needed.
Standard nursing equipment and supplies including infusion pumps; may involve assistive devices such as walkers, wheelchairs, BP monitors, thermometers, pulse oximetry units, and oxygen tanks.
Work EnvironmentVaried activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting; requires full range of body motion, patient handling, and finger dexterity; standing and walking for extended periods; lifts items up to 40 pounds.
Mental/Physical RequirementsCombination of office and clinic settings; frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations.
