Contract Lab Chemist

Location:

Superior, WI | Duration: 1 year, possible extension | Pay Range: $26.00/yr - $31.00/yr ($26-31/hr)

Description

A Contract Lab Chemist works in a temperature-controlled environment performing process control and product certification testing on various refinery feed stocks, intermediate streams, finished products, and processing chemicals. Additional tasks include running QC samples to support the accuracy of the process control and certification testing. This role supports the safe and efficient operation of the refinery and assists Marketing in selling high-quality fuels, petroleum feed stocks, and asphalt to retailers and government entities.

Duties

  • Participate in all refinery safety & health initiatives.
  • Perform routine and QC testing as directed by the Chemists.
  • Document all testing results in the Laboratory Information Management System.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory instruments, equipment and areas; perform routine maintenance and assist the Chemists with more complex repairs.
  • Write Safe Work Permits for maintenance on building, grounds, or instruments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (QC administration, writing procedures, ordering supplies, training, etc.)
  • Assist with inventory control.
  • Write work requests for maintenance.
  • Assist the Lab Tester with tank sampling if necessary.

  • Communication – relaying precise, detailed, accurate information.
  • Organizational – tracking and accurately reporting results.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Scientific and math skills to apply formulas, identify significant figures and round numbers.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemistry (preferred).
  • 4-year science-related degree with 2 years (~20+ credits) of general and organic chemistry courses with labs.
  • 2-4 years of laboratory experience.
  • Schedule
    : 40 hours/week. Potential for occasional 12-hour shifts (days/nights) as needed.
