This role requires the candidate to work on-site in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia.

Client Overview

Our client is a leading research and development (R&D) and manufacturing company specializing in the design and production of high-tech laboratory automation equipment used by research institutions, biotechnology companies, and pharmaceutical organizations worldwide. The company combines advanced engineering expertise with in-house manufacturing capabilities to develop innovative automation solutions that improve scientific research, laboratory efficiency, and precision manufacturing.

Operating under a fully integrated product development model, the organization manages every stage of engineering internally—from research, concept development, mechanical design, prototyping, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and product validation. Its multidisciplinary engineering environment consists of Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Firmware, Process, and Injection Mold Engineering teams working collaboratively to deliver cutting-edge laboratory automation systems with exceptional quality and precision.

Job Role

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is a highly technical, hands-on engineering position responsible for the end-to-end design and development of precision special-purpose machines and high-performance automation systems. This role focuses on transforming engineering concepts into fully functional products through a structured, data-driven engineering approach rather than trial-and-error development.

Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, the successful candidate will lead complete product development activities including engineering analysis, mechanism design, CAD modeling, prototyping, manufacturing collaboration, assembly validation, troubleshooting, and product optimization. The position requires an experienced engineer capable of designing complex moving mechanisms and precision robotic systems while actively participating throughout the in-house fabrication and verification process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop custom special-purpose machines from concept development through commissioning and production.
  • Perform engineering research, feasibility studies, technical analysis, and cost estimation for new product development.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation using Solid Works or Onshape.
  • Design precision mechanical systems, motion mechanisms, kinematic assemblies, and robotic components with high accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with Electrical, Software, Automation, and Firmware Engineering teams to integrate complete mechatronic systems.
  • Support prototype development, assembly, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and product validation throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Work directly with in-house manufacturing and workshop teams during fabrication, assembly, and engineering verification.
  • Monitor project timelines, coordinate with suppliers when required, and ensure engineering deliverables meet quality, performance, and production standards.
Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in mechanical design engineering, particularly in special-purpose machines, automation equipment, or precision mechanism development.
  • Proven experience designing and developing complete machines from research, engineering analysis, CAD design, prototyping, manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning.
  • Strong expertise in mechanism design, motion analysis, kinematics, machine elements, and precision moving systems.
  • Hands-on experience manufacturing mechanical instruments, automation equipment, robotic systems, or mechatronic devices.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software such as Solid Works or Onshape.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting capabilities for complex mechanical and mechatronic systems.
  • Highly analytical with excellent creativity, logical thinking, problem-solving ability, and strong attention to detail.
  • Willing to work full-time on-site in Salatiga under a 45-hour workweek.
  • Demonstrated passion for engineering research and product innovation.
