Location: Administration offices in Surprise, AZ.

The Accounting Manager manages the accounting functions of the Finance Department under the direction of the Controller. This position oversees the processing of accounting transactions, preparation of timely and accurate financial statements, and the delivery of management reports and analyses in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies. The role provides financial leadership and technical expertise to assigned entities, ensuring the achievement of organizational financial goals and compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.

• Supervise accounting staff and ensure timely, accurate completion of financial reporting and audit.
• Coordinate daily and monthly accounting operations, ensuring compliance with established procedures and internal controls.
• Train accounting staff in financial reporting standards, work paper documentation, and month‑end processes.
• Manage accounting and reporting systems in alignment with organizational policies, internal controls, and reporting requirements.
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements for assigned communities.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and work papers for designated areas.
• Initiate and approve fund transfers and other intercompany financial transactions.
• Establish, document, and enhance accounting processes and internal controls to strengthen accuracy and transparency.
• Develop and document process improvements to streamline operations.

• Lead the preparation of month‑end, quarterly, and annual financial statements for Sun Health affiliated entities.
• Oversee completion of bond reporting and consolidated financial statements, including intercompany eliminations.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory and professional reporting requirements.
• Provide financial data and support to external auditors for federal and state filings (Forms 990/990T, 1120, and related state returns).
• Manage sales and property tax filings, tax exemption applications, and ensure accurate classification and valuation with local tax authorities.
• Oversee financial reporting to federal and state agencies, ensuring accuracy and adherence to all compliance standards.

• Collaborate with operational leaders to provide financial insight for planning, budgeting, and decision‑making.
• Develop and monitor key financial performance metrics for operations.
• Prepare financial analyses and trend reports for administrators, senior management, and board members.
• Evaluate and implement policies, procedures, and systems to improve financial accuracy and operational effectiveness.
• Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders and provide exceptional internal customer service.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibility.
• CPA designation or active pursuit of certification preferred.
• Experience in senior living and/or multi‑family property accounting required.
• Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
• Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Level 1 Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
